2nd Biennial Conference on the Qur'an
‘QUR'AN: THE SOUCRE OF KNOWLEDGE AND INNOVATION’

Deadline for abstracts: 15 July 2011

Papers are invited for the 2nd Biennial Conference on the Qur’an, to be held at USIM from Wednesday 20 to Thursday 21 September 2011. The conference seeks to provide a forum for discussing the role of the Quran as an inspiring source for knowledge and innovation. Our objective is to encompass a global vision of current research trends, and to stimulate discussion, debate and research on innovation aspect of the Qur’anic text and its interpretation. While this year’s conference will remain focussed on the textual study of the Qur’an, contributions on all topics relevant to Qur’anic studies are welcomed. While the final conference programme will take account of the range of proposals actually accepted, suggested areas of specific interest for this session include:

 - The Qur’an and sciences
- The Qur’an and innovation
- Applied discourses of the Qur’anic exegesis
- The Qur’an in contemporary society and culture
- The Qur’an and the arts: visual, aural and literary
- The Qur’an: characters and characterisation, literary trajectories, structure and themes

Conference Languages: Malay, Arabic and English

Submission of Abstracts:

The deadline for abstracts is 15 July 2011. Abstracts of around 200 words and details of institutional affiliation should be submitted by email attachment to swat2011usim@gmail.com. Accepted papers will be notified by email by the end of July.

The abstracts or full papers must be submitted only as a MS Word document and should follow the following structure:

Latin:
Font: Times New Roman, Size 12, Paragraph: Double Spacing.
Arabic:
Font: Tradional Arabic, Size 18, Paragraph: Single Spacing.

Registration Details:

Registration Fee is MYR 500 (USD 165) for conference presenters and MYR 300 (USD 100) for conference delegates. This covers the Opening Ceremony, conference materials, meals and social activities.

Student registration fee – MYR 100 (USD 50) inclusive of all conference days
Registration fee does not include hotel accommodation, travel or ground transportation.
